Emotional Intelligence at Work: From Managing Emotions to Building Stronger Teams

Blog Emotional Intelligence at Work: From Managing Emotions to Building Stronger Teams

Knowing how to manage your emotions is one thing. Doing it when a deadline is slipping, a conversation gets difficult or your team challenges you is another.

Emotional intelligence isn’t simply about staying calm or being empathetic. It’s about recognising what you feel, understanding how those emotions influence your behaviour and choosing how to respond.

For managers and teams, that difference can shape conversations, decisions, relationships and workplace culture.

At TBH Circle, our Emotional Intelligence Lab helps professionals move beyond understanding emotional intelligence to experiencing it through behavioural simulations, collaborative challenges and structured reflection.

Beyond Theory: Experiencing Emotional Intelligence

Traditional training can explain emotional intelligence. But real development happens when participants have an opportunity to examine their own reactions.

Through LEGO-based simulations and immersive workplace scenarios, participants explore how emotions influence their decisions, communication and relationships.

The experience begins with self-awareness: recognising emotional triggers, identifying underlying feelings and understanding how personal reactions can affect others.

Participants then work through challenging situations that require them to pause, regulate their emotions and consider different responses rather than react instinctively.

The learning extends to empathy and relationship management. By exploring different perspectives and working collaboratively with people displaying contrasting behaviours, participants examine their assumptions, communication patterns and responses to conflict.

The objective isn’t to eliminate emotions. It’s to understand them well enough to respond with intention.

What Participants Take Back to Work

Our Emotional Intelligence Lab focuses on five practical capabilities:

  • Self-awareness: Recognising emotional patterns and personal triggers.
  • Emotional regulation: Responding thoughtfully under pressure.
  • Empathy: Understanding perspectives beyond one’s own.
  • Collaborative communication: Navigating disagreements and strengthening workplace relationships.
  • Relationship management: Building trust and contributing to psychologically safer teams.

Every experience is followed by reflection and action planning, helping participants connect what they discover during the session to situations they encounter at work.

Building Emotionally Intelligent Workplaces

Designed for people managers, emerging leaders, individual contributors and cross-functional teams, TBH Circle’s Emotional Intelligence Lab combines behavioural science with experiential learning to make these capabilities practical and relevant.

Because emotionally intelligent workplaces aren’t built by asking people to control their emotions. They’re built by helping people understand their emotions, recognise their impact and respond more effectively to others.
